The idea of organizing a Land Art Festival at Dikemark began to take shape in 2022. The following spring, a call for proposals was announced – and over 126 artists from 23 countries applied! All were eager to create art in the natural environment of the abandoned hospital grounds. From this overwhelming number of applications, the jury selected seven works that were produced in 2023. In 2024, six additional works were created.
The artists work in, with, and on the stunning landscape. Some create art from materials they find in nature, such as stones, branches, tree trunks, and mounds of earth. Others bring their own materials and build art installations – which visitors of all ages can experience and move through, around, and within.
The artworks either remain in place for a long time or gradually weather and return to nature.
If you take a look around, several of the works can still be found in the central area.
